Nobody Said It Would Be Easy...

GuitarDaddy owns a few books like the one to the left.

He also knows that you probably own a few books like this as well.

You know the titles... "Five Steps to Being a Better Guitar Player", "Master Guitar Scales in a Weekend", "The Simple Solution to Guitar Chord Memorization", "Everything You Need to Know About Power Chords", "100 Tips to Becomming a Better Rhythm Player", "Become a Blues Guitar God in 1 Week".... and on and on they go.... The titles seem somewhat repetitive, and simply too good to be true. After all, can you really learn how to be proficient in playing a (relatively complicated) musical instrument by just reading a book? Can you really?

Now don't misunderstand, these books are all very good. They are packed with detailed information, instruction and charts that will teach you the facts about the intended subject. But they are also somewhat misleading... As all guitar players know, or eventually will learn, there is no true "fast track" to success when it comes to learning to play the guitar.

It takes time, repitition, practice, dedication and persistance to become a better player.

On this page, GuitarDaddy will share lesson "essays" that are short, concise, and easy to read. Many can be read in 5 minutes or less. But their lessons will be life-changing if you choose to apply them to your instructional routine.

Check back often, new lesson essays will be added every few weeks...

Have you ever seen or heard someone play something, tried to do it yourself, maybe practiced it for a long time, and ended up with only frustration and bad feelings about yourself as a player? Be honest now.

I’ve been playing for 30 years, and giving guitar lessons for 27 years, and I have never met a player, including myself, who could honestly answer no to that question. There are a few things that are always true when we are unable to play something we want to play on the guitar... CLICK FOR MORE...

How To Practice Chord Changes

Many people begin to play the guitar by learning the guitar chords to their favorite song, and trying to change them . In fact, I learned this way. There are many things to be aware of while doing this. There are things to know and do that can make it easier, and guarantee you will have success. There are also many things that can go wrong, and guarantee trouble.

You should first understand that often the term "simple chords" is very misleading. Most "simple chords" for guitar require quite complex movements of the fingers, in order for them to get into the final "form" of the chord. In the following essay, I am going to analyze one of the most common chord changes, and one of the most misunderstood in terms of its actual difficulty. I am referring to the chords G and C...
